Linger

Etched in the clouds to fall away with the wind, a lingering thought whispered, carried into the sky, vanishing as quietly as it came. And what was the thought, that brightened a smile, kept the heart from woe, and lifted the spirit? A kind thought. One that was held deep inside to protect it, to save it. It was whispered in the latest hours, the quiet moments, when fingers touched and mouths played parts. It hovered over the minds of those who only wished to say it aloud. But just as the thought lingered, it faded. Just as the fingers touched, the mouths closed quickly. And as the words were etched in the clouds, 'i would give you world,' the wind blew fierce and stole the thought, erasing it from being seen, from being heard. The eyes would never look up to see what was above them. Though deep in the darkness, the thought still quietly lingers. The cloud may have vanished, but the memory remains, lingering.
